Biography of Ante Starčević
Ante Starčević was an Austro-Hungarian politician of Croatian origin, publicist, and writer.
He was an active supporter of the Croatian independence movement and one of the founders of the Croatian Party of Rights. He wrote in the Ekavian dialect of Serbo-Croatian language, with the aim of establishing it as the basis for a unified language.
In modern Croatia, he is often referred to as the "father of the homeland" (Croatian: otac domovine).
Early Life and Education
Ante Starčević completed his secondary education in Zagreb in the autumn of 1845.
He then attended the seminary in Sisak and studied theology in Pest (now part of Budapest). In 1846, he received an honorary degree in philosophy from the University of Pest. Afterward, he decided to abandon his career as a priest and dedicate himself to politics, bec
