Born in the year 1973 on 17th June, to father Vece Paes and mother Jennifer Paes, in Calcutta situated in West Bengal in India, Leander Adrian Paes spent the better half of his childhood days growing up in Calcutta.

He was enrolled as a student at the La Martiniere School situated in his hometown. After this, he decided to complete his education from the St. Xavier’s College in Calcutta.

He got his sportsman skills from his parents as they were also sportsperson which inspired him more to pursue sports as a career. He was clear about his ambitions from a very young age and decided to be a part of the Britannia Amritraj Tennis Academy which is situated in Madras in Chennai, India in the year 1985.

He became an excellent player of tennis under the guidance of his coach Dave O’Meara and was able to win the Wimbledon Junior title as a teenager.
